AN ELK IN MARRAKECH, pt.2: R.I.P. YVES

elmar went to see yves saint laurent's "majorelle" gardens.
coming from way north elmar was not familar with cactuses yet ...

of course only a small part of the property is open to the public. there are two more villas hidden behind walls of beautiful exotic trees. it's not possible to enter the one in the accessible part of the garden either, but at least we got to enjoy the view standing on the terrace feeling so saint laurent.
here are some pictures of yves saint laurent in his moroccan hideaway
1969
and his spring collection from this year
and in 1982, together with previous boyfriend and later business partner and co-founder of his label, pierre bergé who now owns the remaining two villas and still spends time there (he will turn 80 this year)
fall collection 1982

... he must have had some inspiring moments in his beautiful majorelle gardens ...

SATURDAYNIGHTMUSIC (and advice)

now with all that talk about morocco we might want to suggest this one to get you into the mood for partying:

and to add a bit of educational value, here some information by our friends from wikipedia:
"The song gives a fabulist account of a ban on rock music by the Sharif or King being defied by the population, who proceed to "rock the casbah". The King orders jet fighters to bomb any people in violation of the ban. The pilots ignore the orders, and instead play rock music on their cockpit radios."
and "Casbah is specifically the citadel of Algiers in Algeria and the traditional quarter clustered around it. More generally, a kasbah is the walled citadel of many North African cities and towns."

but since we don't like to scare you off with too much educational humbug we'd like to balance it out with our wise drinking advice for the perfect saturday night - make it two:
wishing you a lovely evening!

AN ELK IN MARRAKECH pt 1

elk elmar was invited to a very special trip - he got to travel to the presentation of the new collection of ck watches and jewellery. where? in marrakech, morocco!!
he had to get up really early, his flight was at 7 in the morning ...
after 9 hours of travel elmar was awarded by the view from his hotel room balcony
hello marrakech. well, ... hello garden of hotel la mamounia ...
two beds for one elk?
time to take a bath. better take off the watch before
elmar then had a look around:
and finally found out where oranges come from. THEY GROW ON TREES!
then he went on to the presentation of the new ck watches and jewellery collection
discussing the collection with friends
flirting with the models...
and guess who was there as well? paul (elmar's stalker?) wearing his favourite piece of the collection, a beautiful contorted bracelet
they decided to discover more of marrakech together
time for a drink!
see the pictures of elmar's visit at the gardens of yves saint laurent tomorrow!

SHEEP AT SHOOT

yesterday meryl sheep had to get up really early for work. she tried not to wake her friends...

she was helping out at a shoot for material girl. on the car ride to the location she had a chat with make-up artist sunanda.

meryl then had to take a small rest after helping to prepare the make-up stuff

...first cuddling with model lenka

and then with martina who is getting her hair done by hair stylist anita obi on this picure

...helping with the styling...

then meryl got into a dangerous situation: what is martina doing with that knife?

ah, just making a sandwich for her

...and yes models do eat!

and now that we are speaking of the models, let's find out more about them.

this is martina. she is 20 and studies art history. she was born in bulgaria and lives in vienna. she's now modelling for a bit more than one year, has two cats and would be a cat herself if she were an animal.

and this is lenka. she is 17, still in school and started modelling when she was 14. if she were an animal she'd be a dog.

watch out for the pictures in material girl's upcoming spring issue (february)!

THESE FUNNY PEOPLE AT ANNABELLE

remember when flatbear attended the presentation of the new thomas sabo jewellery line for spring 2010? it was accompanied by paul, who got snapped by the cameras of swiss women's magazine "annabelle".
* if you can't spot paul look out for the only person holding an oversized coconut cocktail in her hands.
** and paul swears by god (who obviously is very important to paul) she has no idea where these strange people at annabelle got that hilarious job description from!

W-EDGY

if we should ever launch a fashion brand we'll make sure to also drive everyone insane by creating new sub-labels and brand spin offs every week. for guaranteed success we will follow the great example of adidas. there's the "performance" subline, the "originals" one and another one called "style", which again is divided into the seperate y3 label by yohji yamamoto AND - and this is where we might be able to surprise some of you - a relatively new line called SLVR. it was created in 2008 and this is how the SLVR pr department puts it:
"The adidas SLVR Label is smart sportswear, perfectly balanced between the worlds of street and high fashion, for active lifestyles and effortlessly stylish individuals. adidas SLVR communicates style with a whisper rather than a shout, emphasizing authenticity, innovation, and subtlety of design."

which then looks like this

but what we actually wanted to discuss with you our dear readers, yes, all three of you:
for spring summer they presented these sneakers with wegdes

now somehow we just can't decide whether this is a decent trend and something to give a try or rather one of the worst things that could happen to our feet?
well, as always it depends on the idea's execution. and there are nice examples...
