sure, she's an actress now. but her on screen looks ("the strangers"; the left one, duh.) don't quite work for us:
it was time to do some research (not that i'm procrastinating here, really). the shocking result: she's already a victim of then-and-now-inism

You did not do your research well enough. What happened to her is that her 'secret' boyfriend Heath Ledger died not long after they presented eachother to their families back in home. Suddenly he died of an accidental presctiption overdose and she was left a 'widow' at age 20. They had been on the verge of going pubic with their relatioinship and moving in together when this happened so his sudden death truly put her into a VERY deep depression, and one that she hasn't totally come out of.
AntwortenLöschenAs for work, before she filmed The Strangers she had filmed The Black Balloon in Australia, and she won an award for it there. Then Heath died after she had shot The Strangers. For a long time she didn't do anything else because she literally couldn't do anything else because of her grief. Johnny Depp took pity of her (he was a good friend of Heath Ledger) and gave her a small role as a mermaid in Pirates of The Carribbean: Strange Tides. Last yeaar she also did a small role in The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrman, which hasn't come out yet. In any case, I think Gemma realised there are more important things in life than fashion and looking skinny, and appreciates spending time with the people she loves. Life is short.
Oh and she also did a play back home in Perth around a year ago where she played 3 different characters, so you can say she is pursuing her first love, acting, but taking it very slowly. I think she divides her time between her homes in New York and Perth and LA where she has many friends. Her sister Sophie moved to New York to live with her when Heath died because her family were very worried for Gemma, but eventually Sophie fell inlove and now lives in the US but in another state. The Great Gatsby will come out next summer.
